About Neurology Neurology is the medical specialty dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the brain, spine and peripheral nerves. Neurologists are highly trained and have at least four years of postgraduate training after the completion of medical school. They perform and interpret a number of specialized diagnostic tests. They do not perform surgery. Surgery is performed by neurosurgeons. Diagnostic testing performed by neurologists includes: electromyography (EMG), electroencephalography (EEG), evoked responses (which includes visual evoked potentials, brain stem auditory evoked potentials and somatosensory evoked potentials), carotid duplex, and videonystagmography (VNG). All of these tests are performed at the outpatient offices of the Neurology Center. In this section, we offer brief summaries of some of the disorders and conditions our neurologists diagnose, treat and manage. We also provide you with additional resources on the web for further research.
